Armenia

Armenia
Estimated Gypsy population: 10,000. The Romanies came into contact with Armenian speakers on their way from India to Europe as they passed through the Caucasus and what is now northeastern Turkey. A number of Armenian words were borrowed by Romani at this time, such as bokoli (a type of cake or bread). Some Gypsies remained in Armenia and other parts of what was the Soviet Union as well as Turkey. They are known as Bosha or Lom.
