Sarajevo Peace Conferences

Sarajevo Peace Conferences
The International Romani Union decided in 1994 to sponsor a conference for peace in the Balkans. At the time, it was thought that this conference could be held in Sarajevo. In the end, however, it was decided to hold it in May 1995 in Budapest, Hungary. The program covered issues pertaining to the Romanies and to international relations in general. Because of the success of this conference, a second one was held in 1996. Again it was felt premature to hold the conference in Sarajevo, so instead it was held in the town of Gasteiz (Vitoria) in the Basque country of Spain.
